Default Taking photographs of quilts

I get to borrow those family heirlooms of my friend - Pat, I'll bring
them to the guild meeting Tuesday night.

But I also decided I'd take some photos, and he's wanting to help even
and then get copies.

So how do I do this best? I have a small, but very good zoom film
camera (as in not digital).

It needs to be indoors. I was thinking of folding them (one at a time)
over the top of the rail over the stairs. That way I cat get a little
less than half in a picture. Maybe also try over the sofa? As in over
the back and the seat. Just to get to see more of it?

And some closeups too, possibly with a ruler next to the motif?

Also, I guess we should do it when there is more natural light in my
living room rather than just use lamps?

I'm not looking for prof looking photos, just something that will show
the quilts of nicely + be some kind of documentation for my friend to
have.

What do you all think? Did I miss out any obvious options for
displaying the quilts?

Needless to say, one I get the photos they will be shared with you all
:-)

Thanks,
Hanne

Hullo Hanne
When I'm doing mine, I clear the living room floor, and lay them there
(in good natural daylight - but not direct sunlight - and then stand on
a chair and lean over the quilt and take the photo from above.
If they are very big, that probably wouldn't work, though - as you
couldn't safely lean over that far!!

I have my SO and neighbor hold them up with the quilts hanging down
from our deck, I stand in our back yard and take the pictures with my
film camera and digital for instant gratification. I can crop the
"volunteer holders" out of the pictures.

This won't help you in time, Hanne, but Quilt University
(www.quiltuniversity.com) is offering a class on taking pictures of quilts.
