Embroidery machine ?'s
Do you have an embroidery machine and what is it?
If so, are you satisfied with it? Could you tell me 'around' the price it was? Where did you get it? Thanks a bunch, Susie northern NY http://community.webshots.com/user/susies1955 |

I have a Viking Rose with the embroidery unit. I love it. (But then I
love my Viking machines....... all of them.) Haven't done as much as I would like with the Rose, regular or embroidery. But am working on it. Mine was a floor demo model that I got with a discount because I am/was a home ec educator. But the prices are reasonable for what you get. I did sell and demo both Babylocks (the same as the Brother and the Bernina Deco series) and the Singer 100, back a few years ago. The Viking is much faster than either and I think the quality is better. But then I also have great support both education and service wise with the Vikings. I got it from the local dealer/service center. Pati, in Phx Susie wrote: Do you have an embroidery machine and what is it? If so, are you satisfied with it? Pati,
Thanks for letting me know what you have. I'll have to save the replies I get so I can make a decision. I have lots of time so that is good. I also have a Viking Rose, but I don't love mine. I don't think the
embroidery is as fine as the Bernina's, or as good as a dedicated, embroidery-only machine. I got mine 6 years ago (it doesn't seem that long!), and it was $2,300. I rarely use my embroidery function. The designs come on cards, and I found I only liked 1 or 2 designs per card, and at $75 per card, it was too expensive to get a bunch of designs. -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply "Susie" wrote in message ... I have a Viking Designer #1+, with the embroidery unit. I'm happy with it,
but admitedly my passion is quilting & not embroidery, so I don't run it through it's paces much. As far as buying embroidery cards for it, if I was inclined to do more with it, I'd get the reader/writer box, so you can download the designs from the net. Pauline "frood" wrote in message m... Wendy,
Ok, thanks for letting me know. Quite a price for something you don't care for. Too bad you couldn't take it to a shop and trade. Pauline,
That is something I have considered too. I won't know until I get one to see if it is my thing. If I could find someone local that had one, I would try it out. I asked, but since I wanted to trade down, to a model that does less,
instead of trading up to a Designer 1 or whatever, they just laughed at me. Oh, and I do have one of those things that lets you download designs and stuff, but those designs don't work nearly as well as the Husqvarna ones. I've had more trouble with thread jams, and designs not stitching out right with those. -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply "Susie" wrote in message ... Wendy,
Well, maybe you can try ebay. I have a Brother 180D which goes for around $500, now, I think, although I
paid more a couple years ago. It's a dedicated embroidery machine, meaning it only does embroidery, doesn't sew otherwise. That's fine with me, I have other sewing machines that I can use while it's embroidering. Its only limitation is the 4 x 4 inch embroidery field. You can get around this somewhat by splitting designs and either re-hooping (tricky!) or splitting designs and using the multi-position hoop which enlarges the field to 4 x 6 3/4" or thereabouts. It embroiders fine. I have downloaded hundreds of free designs from the net, most of which work fine (some don't) and I have subscribed to www.embroiderydk.com You pay $5.00 per month and there are loads of designs to download, with new ones every week. I prefer the ARC thread bought from MelcoMart on line. I also prefer the NEBS pre-wound bobbins to winding my own. I bought 144 bobbins for about $34.00 on-line (forget where exactly). Your other expenses will be needles - buy Organ in bulk; stabilizers - different kinds for embroidering on different fabrics; and of course a box to download designs (I use the Ultimate Box). I use a program called Embird to view, resize and split designs, and Embird Studio to make my own designs. These programs can be downloaded from the Embird site, or from Secrets of Embroidery, where they are actually cheaper. If Brother would come out with a dedicated embroidery machine with a larger embroidery field for around a thousand bucks or so, I'd go for it. Their new top of the line sewing & embroidery machine is a wonder but way too pricey and has more than I need. Iris |
