Oh, that is just beautiful! I especially liked the one with the pearl
center. And the bead is amazing! I have always loved glass paperweights, and these canes and the bead look just like them. Please, keep experimenting! And, since someone mentioned your eggs, and I love PC eggs, I had of cource to wander over there too... jaw dropping beautiful! I _really_ like the look of the eggs with motifs and black background. What a wonderful start for this day, I really enjoyed your site. Thanks for showing your work! -- //Christina Hellström http://www.geocities.com/chellstr/ (Remove stuffing to reply) |

Ohhh goody!! Someone to play with clay with!
The egg I was talking about its grey..with twisted canes.. just lovely and elegant.. Thats so cool that you would share this cane with us. Artists are so generous. Diana -- http://photos.yahoo.com/lunamom44 "Chryse" wrote in message m... Mom has always told me that I have that 'technical' sorta mind, hehe. I just looked at the picture I have of those glass rods and just 'did' it. I always admire those in glass beads and thought it would be fun. Which egg? I am guessing that you wandered around my site and are talking about my faux abalone one? If so, hehe, thanks!!! It sits right here next to my computer, hehe. Uhoh, fingers itching for clay!! *quickly grabs some clay and places in Diana's hands!!!* There, that should help, hehehe. Chryse "Diana Curtis" wrote in message ... Those canes are wonderful! I think I see how its done.... very clever! You were inspired by the glass rods but how did you ever figure how to actually make this cane? Its pretty complex looking.. Ok.. you just made my fingers itch to make some... the egg is soooooo incredible. Thanks for sharing! Diana |

OK.. Those are awesome. As a lampworker and clayer I can truly appreciate that
technique. How did you get them so clear?? Juanita http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/rvnsbrk/ May fate bless us all according to our deeds. |

This was just too much of a challenge to pass up! I played around with the
clay for a little while, achieved a similar effect (if somewhat more crudely), and thought, "How hard can it be to do a tutorial? I have a digital camera... ." It took an evening to get all the pics and put the page together. You all will have to let me know what information I didn't think to include. I hope you will share your ideas on elaborating on Chryse's clever technique. Here's the link: http://www.bead-designs.com/html/twistyplain.htm Georgia Morgan Chryse wrote: I would love to do a tute, but I just don't have the time or resources right now. I am sorry!! They are such fun to make. No, I was not assuming anything from anyone, from picking up the clay for the first time or someone who has clayed for 10 years would, or would not, have the knowledge to make this from those pictures. I was just sharing what I had managed to create and thought was a neat effect. I don't know how to explain. But sounds like your strip idea would be neat! |

Looks like a great start, Georgia! Thanks for the ideas.
What intrigued me about Chryse's was the transparency of the cane. I've never been able to get any translucent clay to look that transparent. What's the secret, Chryse? LynnDel |

Chryse's spirals interwove. She had two different spirals going that
intertwined each other Plus the inner activity which added to the complexity. I am easily able to make a single twist like the one on the tutorial, though I couldn't achieve the level of transparency she showed, but I'm not sure how she got the intertwined spirals. -- Dawn Stubitsch http://www.thumbprintkids.com http://www.thumbprintkids.com/pages/caketoppers.html "LynnDel" wrote in message ... I dont have any transparent clay to work with at the moment so im just going
to guess how its done. At least.. this is what I would try. I would make two different colored snakes, thin, and twist them lightly together. Cure. Cover in a sheet of translucent. Cover with the second spiral... since I love the spiral of black with a gold back i would make the black/gold part by rolling out thin sheets of each color. Lay the sheets together and run thru the machine once again. Cut nice narrow strips of that and run them around the transparent in a spiral. Roll it gently to sink the spiral into the trans. ... The more I look at it It seems that that intertwined look comes because of
the transparency. If you can't see the other side it would look like the one in the tutorial. When I tried it I didn't coil the colored strand around the bigger one. I put 2 strands, one on either side and then twisted the whole thing then added a thin layer of translucent on top of that but it was still too opaque to get Chryse's look. I could only see the outer layer. I think what you described is basically the same thing. Hopefully we won't have to speculate too long. -- Dawn Stubitsch http://www.thumbprintkids.com http://www.thumbprintkids.com/pages/caketoppers.html "Diana Curtis" wrote in message ... I did some more experimenting this afternoon and have updated the page I
made. http://www.bead-designs.com/html/twistyplain.htm Some mysteries appear to be solved. Others remain. I mention some possibilities at the bottom of the page. Stay tuned to see if the clay drags me into doing these experiments myself... (The most bizarre thing about this is I have no present use for these canes! Must be the scientist in me...) Beautiful job Georgia! I think you may have cracked the case!
Did you use Premo or Fimo? Thanks so much for taking the time to investigate this technique and publishing your findings. :-) Diana -- http://photos.yahoo.com/lunamom44 "Georgia" wrote in message t...
