Default Oh, Source of All Knowledge!

I am creating something which will have Fimo polymer clay along the edge
of a mirror.

Question: if I put the mirror in the oven with the Fimo, will the heat
break the mirror?

In other words, am I better off curing the Fimo separately and then
hot-gluing it to the mirror?

I'd really rather fold the Fimo around the back of the mirror if that
will be possible.

If you heat it very slowly and then cool it very slowly, it may be OK.
But I guarantee if you heat it quickly or stick it in a hot oven, or get
it hot and then cool it quickly, you will have glass confetti. And I
own a hot glass studio!

Cure it seperately. Mold the fimo around the glass in sections. Cure
the sections, then glue them back onto the glass. Designed right, the
sections will look planned.

Thanks, Pat! I knew glass could take the low temperature at which you
cure Fimo, but wasn't sure if the mirror-coating would change that.

Karen C - California had some very interesting things

Hmmm, wondering what the mirror is made of......

Polymer clay takes low enough temperatures for a short enough period
(15 minutes per 1/4" of thickness, usually) that I'm leaning toward
"probably safe". Of course, with your oven being so inventive about
temperature control...... :-)
