Reminds me of a garter carriage technique I saw a few years ago. If it's a hand knit pattern, I'm really intrigued! Hand knit -- for awhile, I thought I was never going to finish it. It went much faster after I got to the point where I didn't have to look at the pattern. |

(Must be said I never buy our coffee in a can either)...LOL Thanks for the postings Martin Els -- I have added a trap for spammers......niet..... I used to just throw the lids out with the cans, but I think I'm going to start saving them now! Great use for them! Karen in MN |

(pattern request??) You do beautiful work, (((((HUG))))) Noreen -- STRIP *tease* to email me. Hi Noreen, The shawl was done in a class at my LYS, so they gave us the pattern there -- but I did see a picture of it on the net at http://home.interlog.com/~jamieson/kit_shadowshawl.htm . I saw something based on the same concept in a book recently (which of course I can't remember the name of!!). It was a scarf, a black and green "alien" scarf -- and when you looked at it straight on, it looked like a green and black scarf -- but when you looked at it from the side, there was an alien face knit into it! I've loved that technique ever since I first saw it, but balked at the price and noise of a garter carriage. Nice to know it can be done by hand! Is the pattern readily available? Maybe I can get my LYS to order it. Helen "Halla" Fleischer, Fantasy & Fiber Artist in Fairland, MD USA http://home.covad.net/~drgandalf/halla/ |

Helen "Halla" Fleischer, Fantasy & Fiber Artist in Fairland, MD USA http://home.covad.net/~drgandalf/halla/ There is a place to order pattern or pattern & yarn kit at http://home.interlog.com/~jamieson/kit_shadowshawl.htm -- my LYS had the pattern there though, so I think it's probably readily available. One of the things I really liked about it is that you can use different weight yarns for a different drape and look, and still get the same shadow effect. I used 2-ply silk & cashmere for mine, but my LYS has one hanging in a worsted weight that looks much warmer. Karen in MN |

Karen in MN Karen I think it was you who told us about the stripes and heart knitting website. I have printed that one out so we can do it all together at a textile meeting with Guild members. I also saved the instructions you mailed to me. Another item on my todo list....(smile) Els -- I have added a trap for spammers......niet..... |
