For NY city it's boddle but for Passaic, Essex and now Bergen counties it's bah'ull with a slight gutteral stop. Yes, that's it exactly! My mom's wine comes in a bah'ull, and she tells the kids to seh'ull down! Bergen County (though born and raised in NYC) Sue My father first told me about it. He was born and raised in Paterson. He was stationed in Virginia (among other places) during WWII and the "natives" kept trying to get him to say bottle and stoop (front porch). They found out that it works both ways when his buddy's sister went to work in Macy's in NYC and everybody would come to her counter to talk just to hear her accent. Anne from Bergen county too although right now I'm in Delaware |
