"FarmI" ask@itshall be given wrote in "Kelly" wrote in message I was curious...what projects everyone is working on at this time? I'm doing fibre preparation. Have washed the Maremma dog hair and it came up beautifully. I'm now washing the alpaca fleece, then I have to weigh both of them and add Polworth wool, card all together and start spinning. did you get the smell out of the Maremma? Yes. I couldn't smell it at all after I washed it so I got my husband to come and smell it while it was still wet - he has a very sensitive nose and I figured if it was going to have a pong, it would show up while wet. No odor at all of dog, but it did smell of the rinse agent I used in the final rinse. I looks and feels a million dollars. what is Polworth fleece like? no one around here raises Polworth & i've never seen that fleece type. I actually spelled it wrong - it should have been Polwarth. It's from an Australian breed which I gather is 3 parts Merino and 1 part Lincoln. It's good to spin - not as fine as Merino but still soft and easy to spin into a fine yearn. You can read about it at this site: http://www.ballaratweb.net/wdennis/ I didn't get my fleece from her but from a small mill in a place called Nundle: http://www.nundle.info/nundle/woollenmill/index.asp i have to box up some of Perl's fiber & send it to a fellow Raveler (in exchance for some spun yarn from it). Perl is over her ear infection, but is still in physical therapy. she tries to stand on her own, but falls. she's been down over 2 weeks & has very little strength in her legs now. we have to lift her, make her stand (& try to keep her from falling) for a few minutes a few times a day. the problem is, once we get her standing, she wants to walk... i can't wait until they get the barn finished so i can put her in a stall & rig a pulley to her sling. between Tom & i, we can barely lift her (450 pound, more or less) Poor thing. Cows need the same sort of treatment when they go down and I think I'd rahter try to support Perl than a cow :-)) on the knitting front, i've finished the Fiber Trends Here Kitty Kitty for my mom, have a shawl on the needles, along with a string shopping bag. i need to finish a sock & a second fingerless glove. i might knit my brother a scarf... oh, and i need slippers, so i was thinking i'd make felted boots. You sound very busy! Better get to it if they need to be ready by Xmas :-)) |

I have a drawing final on Tuesday. I ripped out the bad-gauge vertical stripe knee sock, and am starting over, when I get a chance to sit still, on a "normal", horizontal stripe knee sock. I'd love to see pictures of the vertical stripe sock when you conquer it. Higs, Katherine |

Not gonna happen. I learned/remembered making up the too-small one that a
sock needs horizontal stretch a lot more than it needs vertical stretch. And I HATED the seam up the back. Hated, hated, hated. Would hate it even if it was done better than I did it.. Here is a picture of what the socks would have looked like (more or less--I'm sure mine would have been knee socks). I'm working with color 1434. http://www.carodanfarm.com/shopsite_...oduct3812.html The directions for making the vertical stripe socks are on the inside of the wrapper (in German!). I found what purported to be a translation somewhere on the internet, but there may have been a mistake in it, because it had you knitting some weird part of the sock in garter stitch (besides the top cuff) Georgia "Katherine" wrote in message ...
