Best Lone Star directions?
Hello,
My favourite nephew will be 18 next June, and I'd like to make him a Lone Star quilt, queen size. Have any of you here made one, and whose directions did you like best? I'd like to do strip-piecing instead of hand piecing a thousand diamonds, and I'd like the star bit to stay on top of the bed, not hang over the sides. Any suggestions or advice? -- Jo in Scotland |

http://www.kayewood.com/catalogfiles/17.html went together very quickly!!!
just have to figure out what to do with it now :~) (as in finishing touches, not to whom it will go.. tis mine all mine y'all) everything is printed on the interfacing. you pick your colors, cut your strips, iron/tack them on, sew, flip, iron trim and go to the next row... http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/berger...&.dnm=c579.jpg here it is partially done (what i finished in class) I have the whole square now. not sure if it wants to be a center medalion for a bed quilt or just hang on the wall. -- Kellie kjbeanne at yahoo dot com www.kjbeanne.com/kellie.htm "Johanna Gibson" wrote in message ... So, did you do the printing on the interfacing or did you buy it
pre-printed? One day I'm gonna make me one of these (I've done the indi-diamond thing) and naturally I am curious..... -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia (Queen of Down Under) http://www.geocities.com/shazrules/craft.html (takes a while to load) http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shazrules/my_photos (same as website but quicker) "Kellie J. Trying to remember who wrote the book "Lone Star Quilts and Beyond"
(???) It has good instructions and I remember someone on here mentioning it. I am working on a similar quilt, but 6 pointed stars, and they are not that large.... strip pieced and such. But you are supposed to make 9 of them, plus some parts for around.......... Not sure I will ever finish all of it and may change it. BG Especially since I started it a few years ago. I want to get it finished. I have seen several versions that are strip pieced. It isn't difficult to do. Just be careful of the bias cuts. Starch can be your friend if you start out with starched fabric. The most difficult of the one I am doing is that the instructions called for pressing seams open........ and pressing that many quarter inch seams open is a pain.... literally. Have fun. I got a pattern called Lone Star Basics from
www.claudiasquiltshoppe.com It has 5 amd 6 row layouts. It has 6or 8 different sizes that you can make your quilt in the directions. Hope this will help. dreamboat "Johanna Gibson" wrote in message ... Hello, My favourite nephew will be 18 next June, and I'd like to make him a Lone Star quilt, queen size. oh... and it had instructions to make the setting squares a way i didn't
like (with a seam in the middle) so i did that part the "old fashioned" way. -- -- Kellie kjbeanne at yahoo dot com www.kjbeanne.com/kellie.htm "Sharon Harper" wrote in message u... In article . net,
Pati Cook wrote: Trying to remember who wrote the book "Lone Star Quilts and Beyond" (???) It has good instructions and I remember someone on here mentioning it. Pati, that would be Jan Krentz's book. Her instructions for strip piecing this kind of quilt are excellent! I've made two Lone Star quilts, and the one I did with her instructions was much easier than the first one. Both of them are pictured he http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1/lonestarquilts.html; it's the second one down that came from Jan's book.
