Default Rotary cutter and renovations!

Well, I didn't get to go to Lancaster today but we are installing the new
countertops, sink, faucet, and garbage disposal today in my soon to be
renovated kitchen. I am doing wallpaper behind the countertop area and was
just measuring for the strips. Since the area is only 18" deep in most
places, I am running the paper longways to avoid seams (the paper is 21"
wide). Trying to figure the best way to cut the strips - lightbulb moment!
Use a cutting mat and my paper rotary cutter. So off I go. I did take
'before' pictures of the kitchen and will take 'after' shots as well if
anyone is interested in seeing them. Sort of like my own "Before and After"
show like on HGTV. The new floors go down on Thursday and the appliances
get delivered on Thursday as well (new gas range and dishwasher). This is
the first time I have ever been in a house long enough to have to renovate.
I still think it's easier to buy a new house and move!

I would love to see the pics when you're finished with the project, Alice.
It's a pain while it's going on, isn't it? But you'll be so happy once it's
done!

I agree Alice, moving seems easier that renovating. I did our kitchen and
Masterbath about 6 years ago. Even though they were careful to clean up
every day, it was impossible to get rid of the dust. The kitchen was 6 weeks
and then the Master Bath was 3 weeks. We did all the floors from kitchen to
entry and MBath in tile, so the removal of carpet and existing tile was
noisy and messy. Never again, although I love the outcome. Maybe a round
the world trip while renovations proceed.

Well, I was hoping to escape to Lancaster (with the DHs blessing, I might
add) for the day, but I felt guilty leaving him here to do all the work.
He has a bad back and really shouldn't be doing a lot of lifting and
bending. So, I'm here in the midst of the mayhem. Still using a rotary
cutter and mat, but with wall paper instead.

This is actually Phase I of the renovations. We are putting new vinyl
flooring down in the kitchen, family room (never again carpet in this room
which leads to our back door - but I'll leave that for another day!),
hallway, powder room and foyer; replacing all the countertops, installing
new dishwasher and stove; wallpapering behind all the countertop area and
putting up a border around the newly painted kitchen and family room. After
all this is done, for Phase II, we rip up the carpets in the
library-was-dining-room and dining-room-was-living-room and put down Pergo.
That means emptying all the wall-to-wall bookshelves and my china hutches.
Phase III is replacing the carpet from the stairs and upper hallway. Phase
IV is repapering or painting the powder room. By the end of all this, it
should be time to retire and move to Florida! Phew, I need a nap.

What a good idea to save all those pesky seams! I can't wait to see the
'show'. Be sure to wear your glittery tights and pose beside your before
and after pics so we get the full effect!
