Knitting needle kit question (Boye vs. Denise)
I am looking to purchase a knitting needle kit and have found these two kits
on the internet. I don't want to have to purchase new needles everytime I start a new project and this seems to be the way around that. Especially the circular ones. The Denise kit sounds like it is better, but it doesn't have needles down to the smaller sizes like the Boye. Can anyone tell me what they like and dislike about theirs. Or, is there another kit that I haven't found that is better yet? |

My local Michael's carries the Boye's needlemaster set for $69.99(US), and every two weeks they have a 40% off coupon for one item so you could get it for around $42(US). I saw some women on the about.com forum talking about doing this recently too, so it must be carried in most Michael's stores. -- Leticia http://yarncove.blogdrive.com |

I have the Boye set and I also have the same problem with them coming
unscrewed. I love having all the variety of sizes available, but I find that problem *very* annoying. Would love to hear how people solved it. Jean spampot wrote: Coincidentally, I was looking at an ad for Denise's in the latest Knitting magazine. I have both the Boye and the Plymouth sets (Plymouth has fewer needles and they're bamboo), and while I use the Boye a lot, I've posted before about how annoying it is that the tips come unscrewed during knitting. All the tips I've used so far do that, so I figure it's not just a few of the tip sizes. Fortunately the screws are very long so I just have to twist a bit every few rows, but I shouldn't have to do that. Why don't I return it? Well...that's a lot of trouble and as I said, I do use them a lot. Anyone else have the same problem? |

I have the Boye set and I also had the problem with the needles coming
unscrewed. After the first few times, I used the key and the gripper thing(I hadn't used the gripper thingy originally) and on a 5' x 5' blanket, I only had to tighten it once. Pretty good for 200 stitches across, I thought. Anything that can be taken apart will eventually come apart when I don't want it to! It's a pretty reliable prediction around here, anyway. If I had to rate on a rate of one to ten the Denise would get a nine and Boye would get a strong 7. If you check more sights you will find the responses very close to mine. God bless, Dennis |

I HAVE noticed that the size markings on the Plymouth bamboo tips tend to disappear with use, though -- but that can be fixed with a bit of ink or nail polish. |

I have both ! the denise feel better in the hands, I don't like the metal
points on the boyes as well but the boye set needles attach more securely to the cables. The join on the denises were fine for many years .but the boyes are an even older set I bought used and they work well despite the age. If you like metal needles and have the funds the boyes maybe a better long term investment , If you tend toward hand and wrist problems or want to make big heavy items ther the denise are better. They are a lot less money too.IMHO.
