Default Checking in

Hi RCTYers

I have been MIA for a while so i thought i would take this opportunity to check
in and say hello. Things have been pretty fraught and hectic recently as I
have been working for my old director of studies (from my PhD) on a project
(about complaints concerning financial promotions). Anyway, that recently
finished and i am back on the quest for a job. I feel very dispirited about it
all - a prof at a Uni nearby had approached me to do a fellowship, and i felt
as if it was meant to be, but unfortunately i didn't get funding so it is back
to the drawing board. I would be grateful for positive vibes/prayers etc.
about me finding a suitable position.

Enough whining though.

As for yarn crafts- well i found myself in an interesting position recently, in
that i seemed to be stuck in researching and planning projects and even got
some (gasp) swatching done, but then was totally uninspired to pull my finger
out and get on. I am loving my spinning, but even that seemed to be just
spinning rather than creating something with a project in mind.

However, i seem to be getting over this attack of plannitis and actually have
some projects on the go. I just finished a scarf/stolette in a lovely handspun
merino (sapphire shades)- it languished for a bit while i pratted about with
various lace edgings, but in the end the travelling vine stitch looked great on
its own. I am also working on some handspun mittens inspired by some stitch
designs i found in Rutt's book. They are BFL which i dyed with some of the
Kool Aid Noreen sent me last year. I would like to enter them both into the
sheep fair....if i can.

Those of you who remember the fright we had with my Dsis's illness and long
stay in hospital last year will be glad to know that she seems to be on the
mend. The wise words and support of this group helped enormously then and
still do now.

I hope you and yours are all happy and hearty

Regards
Sarah

Hi Sarah, glad to have you back. I am sure a job will turn up. Just like
you have planning slumps, those will also go away and you will have lots
of great ideas again for your spun yarn. I am working on a scarf, woven
out of bought silk cord like yarn. I first dyed it in a brazil wood
dyebath, ending up with 18 different colours. Very pretty. When the
local Fall Fair in Duncan came up with their anual calendar, en quest for
entries.....Ice wine, I thought that I could combine these two and weave a
scarf. It is all beamed up, and I have been sampling for two days. I
will weave a bit and go and do something else, weave with another colour
and, work in the garden for 3 hours, etc. I still have not found the
right colour to get it off the ground. I will keep on sampling and
trying....so I know all about being stuck.

Happy creative thoughts Sarah.
