Default Howdy Y'all!

Hi Dawn! And Welcome...

Good on you for logging your learning experiences with lampwork! I reckon
you have a bright future ahead in lampworking... I've only done stringing
but I'm going to have a go at some stage - don't know if I have the guts
to log my learning curve though LOL

Welcome, Dawn! Since you've been lurking here FOR-FREAKING-EVER, I'm sure you
already know about the Links List and Bead Notes, so I won't bludgeon you
needlessly with it.

I've been lurking here at your News Group since the beginning of the year,
and thought it was time I introduce myself. My name is Dawn and I live in
Port St. Lucie, Florida. I've worked with Polymer Clay for about ten years
now, but have recently fallen madly in love with glass lampwork beads. My
user name at JustBeads is Heartstrings, but I'm slowly making the change
over to my new business name Art Insomnia.

Today was day 11 at the torch for me, and what a humbling experience it has
been! For someone who can barely walk down the street and chew gum at the
same time. it has been a struggle, but I think I'm starting to make a little
progress. Since there's no one near by that teaches, I got a few good books
and one video and away I went! Here's a link to my little web hosting
Gallery, in case you might want to take a peek at my clay work, ...or my
(how embarrassing...) new efforts in lampwork.

I'd like to say what a nice group you are, and I feel like I know each of
you already.

Have a beady-utiful day!
Dawn

Dawn,

Your polyclay work is amazing. I love the kitty beads, and the hearts are
gorgeous.

Your lampwork is inspiring. If these are beginner beads, I'm afraid to watch
your progress. I don't think my heart could take it.

Are any of the beads in your photo album for sale?

Thank you so much Sooz!
I don't think I've ever had anyone "klunk" over my beads before! =o)

I peed, too, but don't tell anyone.

But if you used the word "AMAZING", I know you can't be talking about my
sad little glass lampwork beads! LOL! Because those are the one's I'm new to
making.

YES I am....your lampwork is utterly awe-inspiring for the amount of time
you've been doing it. ~~HOLY CRAP.~~

I'm actually
quite proud of my hand sketched beads and the detail I put into them.

I would be too. SHEESH. (I wish you did more than just cats, personally....I
was so happy to see the dragonfly. I saw the doggie, too, but that's not a
REAL DOG according to my Mercury.)

And there's no need to be afraid of the studio anymore. Trust me. It has
that "warm, fuzzy hurricane just blew through" feeling about it now. If
cleanliness is next to godliness, I'm on a rocketship to hell.

I'm glad Winston is doing well and has surpassed the given time span. They
are both cute. I have 2 furbabies- Calybe and Lilea. They are sisters and
are 2 1/2 years old. I just can't imagine not having them around. One of
these days I'll get around to putting their pics up

Keep on with the good bead work.

Hi Kathy,
Thank you so much for the compliments on my beads! And yes, it is nice

to
see that I'm making some progress. I told my husband that I should wear

that
first bead around my neck every day, so if I get discouraged, I can just
glance down at it and feel MUCH better! LOL!
And I could go on and on about my fur babies! They are the lights of my
life! Winston, the big Maine Coon is 13 years old. He was diagnosed with
Feline Meningioma, (brian tumor) and given 6 months to live. That was

almost
two years ago. He's not in any pain though, and every day I spend with him
is precious. I have to give him pills twice a day, and he will come get me
to tell me when it's time for his pills. I think it might have something

to
do with the snackies he gets afterwards though. Jamaica, the little black
cat is 12 years old, and I'm certain she'll live to be about 40 or so.

She's
just like a kitten, and hasn't even begun to slow down yet.
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome!

Sounds like my two. Calybe will often sleep on my side and Lilea is the
kneader - and if I move 1/2 and inch she has to start over

At least mine don't weigh much (7 lbs each)

I have a cat that likes to lay on my side. When I sleep, I sleep on my
side. She comes up, and lays full length down my arm. Considering this

cat
is like 12-14 lbs, she's heavy!!! but it's comforting. she will

sometimes
snuggle her head under my chin, or by my ear.

My other cat, the male, sometimes does that. But he comes up, and "does

his
job" which entails kneading. He gets this very serious "gotta do my job"
look. Then he goes into "zen kitty" which is kneading, then going into
super-slow motion for about 5 seconds, then back up to normal speed. It

is
*so* funny to watch.

But hey, they are there when we need them,r ight?

You know what's gross is when they drool on YOUR pillow while purring so
loudly you can't sleep... and kneading your HAIR. Mine is Sol Rosenberg
and he's a bed hog. Also, he doesn't give a damn how much I shuffle my
feet, once he's on them he's not moving.

It's funny how even a king size bed can be too small. Picture
this....Brian spreads out over two thirds of the bed, so I'm left with

one
third, right? Nope, cause Winston sleeps down at the foot of the bed

on
MY
side. So I sleep on my side with my knees drawn up. But hey, I still

have
two thirds of my one third, right? Nope, cause now here comes Jamaica,

and
she has to sleep on MY pillow! Tried giving her a pillow of her own,

but
it
just wouldn't do, so I have to bend my head down to make room for her!

And I
have to lay real still and not wake her, cause as soon as I do, she

starts
to purr, and it's like trying to sleep on a vibrating pillow. I'm glad

she's
happy and all, but dang! So out of a king size bed, I get one third of

one
third! No wonder my back hurts when I get up.
And you know what? I wouldn't change a thing. ^..^

Thanks again Sooz!
I couldn't get in to see Mercury's pic though. It wouldn't accept my ID
and password =o(
But if he's a big boy, he could probably have the doggie I drew for
lunch.... *Everything's good when it sits on a Ritz* LOL!
