Default So, where do we go from WebShots?

It seems there are quite a few of us with a large, disorganized zip file from WebShots (OMG- I had accidentally mis-typed the 'o' in WebShots as an 'i'- rather appropriate right now??? ROFLOL) and we are needing a new *freebie* place to show off the photos of our quilty projects.

Suggestions?

picasaweb.google.com

YMMV, but I'm happy. You can make albums public or viewable only by some
people or totally private.

It is a google site, so if you are anti-google, it won't do.

I've not had any problems with it, using it for about two years.

I use Picasa too - nice and simple to use.

Well, I am abandoning all the so-called free sharing sites. In a mad
moment, I decided to construct my own website for photo-sharing. I
can't do it without help; but I am getting that and definitely having a
go. A bit extreme I know, but I was getting fed up by their changing
systems all the time - not to mention the adverts: and I wasn't even
with Webshots! Of course, my attempts might fail!

Good luck everyone with finding new homes. I was going to mention
Picasa, but I see that Sally and Hanne have spoken favourably of their
own experiences with it.

Pat,

for years I only posted pics on my own webpage, but when I wanted to put
more pics up more frequently, I just got tired of the updating. I never
did spend any time on setting it up for a bunch of folders etc.

That's when I found Picasa :-)

Having your own site is good too. There are also photgraphers' sites
where you buy space for many, many photos at an annual price - easier to
handle and a little more certain than the free sites (but not as certain
as your own domain). I think compared to buying hosting, those sites do
compare pricewise, if you don't need a website for any other reason.
(This is as much for everyone else, since you are setting up your own
already).

Come to flickr.com -- it's free and easy and lots of good peeps there.

My vote is for flickr too although DH prefers Picasa.

Thanks Hanne, for your words of wisdom. As I said, I know it is a bit
extreme, but computer stuff gets me so 'fussed' so easily. I make
quilts etc so slowly that I need to put up photos rarely. Each time I
have been back to Flickr (my site there), there seems to have been a
system/method change or some problem with my Yahoo password. I was
paying an annual fee to avoid adverts, but I was never reminded when it
was due, so this last time I would have had to register all over again.
I felt that, if I had an actual person to lead me through the techniques
I would fare better. I'm having to be kind to myself these days! I just
hope that I won't be disillusioned. So far, so good - I have understood
most and feel I can cope.

As I have said to Hanne just now, I have not found it (latterly) to be
as easy it was when I first put my photos there. I have been with
Flickr for years. I think I should have put photos on more regularly,
then the changes wouldn't seem so extreme.

Thanks Sandy - I was actually bearing in mind that you had done it; and
I really like looking at your work on your site. I might bear in mind
what you say about 'prosy stuff' and try to fix it so that I can put
text on as well. It was our monthly group meeting last evening; and I
was asked so many questions that, perhaps, it would be good to be able
to put instructions etc on the site?

Pat, I think you'll like doing it this way, once you're more used to how
it works. I made that jump some years ago, and I'm very pleased. I can
set up my site any way I like (though I haven't changed it in *years*),
and I also blog occasionally to take care of the sort of chatty things
that doesn't quite "mesh" with the way I have my own site set up.
This way, my site has everything organized according to type, while my
blog is -- of course -- organized by date.
