Default Crimp covers

Rio Grande is now selling "crimp covers" -- hollow, open beads that you can
wrap around a crimp tube to hide it. I ordered some a while back, and have just
now gotten around to testing them.

They work! Once you've folded your crimp tube, you just align it inside the
hollow center of the bead (I put the bead hollow-up on my finger and laid the
strand across it) and gently pinch the sides together around it with chain-nose
pliers. While you can still see the seam on close inspection, from any
reasonable distance they look just like regular 3mm silver beads. Much prettier
than even the nicest folded crimp on a bracelet! Also, crimps sometimes have
sharp edges, and this will cover them nicely, I think I'm going to be using a
lot of these, and I hope they also come out with them in GF or vermeil.

Thanks for the comment. I was wondering if they made a difference when
I saw them (I'm not sure where).
Peace,

I get my GF crimp covers from eBay seller 'finedings' Yahoo store.
You get 50 GF for $6.59. They also have their SS crimp covers on sale
right now - 100 SS for $6.40.

Celine,

The Mighty Crimper works even better at closing these - it has a 3mm
rounded area near the front. Got a pair for $15 with free shipping at
www.artbeads.com. They also have crimp covers, although I think FSL and
CGM are less expensive - but frequently out of stock.

Sounds like an excellent solution - got my RioGrande catalog awhile
back, but haven't taken the plastic wrap off.
Will have to look them up and get a few.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Cheryl

Rio has them for $9.50 for 100 in SS. $13.50 for GF.

On the back of the catalogue is a peyote rope choker in gemstone with a
slider on it. The 16" onyx rope and clasp in SS, the lapis 18" is with 18K
clasp is $375. Pg 720
