Default !@!@#@! Comcast!

Ok, they warned me but I forgot. Comcast just dumped their newsgroup
service. I think they have a new one but I haven't figured out which
and if rec.crafts.beads is part of it. Just found this google group
online though but it's weird to read this way.

Then again, this way I can actually search the archives whereas before
once I hit delete things were gone and I was often lost
later......(SOML!)

Anyone else on Comcast hit by this?

If you use the netscape mail reader, it comes with usenet access. ;-)

Yes, I had to go through this yesterday because Moxley gets the emails
and FORGOT TO WARN ME!

Change your NG server to newsgroups.comcast.net, and change your login
and password to your Comcast email addy and whatever the password is for
that. Should work!

But, doesn't your ISP have to carry newsgroups (have a newsgroup
server)before you can download them with Netscape?

Some ISP's are starting to eliminate newgroup servers to "protect" their
subscribers from spammers.

No, when I used Netscape (before I switched over to a newsgroup
provider), I just went to the newsreader portion of the Mail Application
and 'poof', all I had to do was select the newsgroups I wanted to read.
I didn't do any setup at all.

I went through this too. Hubster swears that he never got any
notification of it on the primary account. I heard about the change
from a friend who wanted to know how to do it in Thunderbird, since
Comcast service reps don't know squat about using Thunderbird.

Nice of Comcast, eh?

Just to elaborate on your instructions, for anyone who is still
struggling with this - the email addy is the PRIMARY addy for your
comcast account, if you have more than one, and you must include the
full address, e.g., . The password is the comcast
password for this email acct. The only setup you have to do is to
change the name of the newsgroups server. You will be prompted for
the email address and password the first time you try to access news
groups; let "password manager" remember the id and password. And
prompted a bit later, and then a bit after that, just to make sure
you are really who you say you are - if your experience matches mine.

Yes - but they just changed from Giganews to their own in house servers.
It's really easy to set up - I think there are instructions on their
website. It only took me a minute or two and I was back on with Usenet.

Thanks you guys. Yea, I know it should be easy, they just caught me off
guard and I just wasn't that motivated to figure it out yet. I'll
switch it over today.

I have Comcast too, but haven't received the announcement. I've just
been using Google.
