Default REPOST/UPDATE: Red Lake Memorial Quilt Project

For those that missed the other posts, I feel the need to make HUG quilts
for the
survivors of the Red Lake School Shooting here in Minnesota. The shooting
took place on the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation in Northern Minnesota.
Anyone who would like to help here are the details:

I found out that the custom is to not speak of the deceased for one
year, including removing all pictures, etc., so I'm going to wait to deliver
the quilts next April, which gives us a year but I don't want the project
forgotten so I'm putting a deadline of Sept. 1. (Whew! Is that a convoluted
sentence or what? ;-))

I'm asking for finished quilts (instead of the traditional blocks) [[UPDATE:
DR. QUILTER IS COLLECTING BLOCKS FOR A TRADITIONAL HUG TO INCLUDE AS WELL.
SEE HER POSTS FOR DETAILS]] lap size, wall hanging, full size, whatever you
feel moved to make. Lonestar is a traditional pattern but art quilts, or
anything that means something to you will, I am sure, be very welcomed.
I'm going to make a Lonestar in peacock colors. What colors you choose is
up to you.
Trust your intuition. For ideas you could use the colors of the Medicine
Wheel, which are white, yellow, red, black, green, blue; or a Rainbow
colored quilt; nature scenes, etc. Trust yourself....you'll know. The
Lonestar is great but any pattern or art quilt will be welcomed. Again,
trust yourself.

We need 18 for the families of those injured or killed, one for the Police
Dept., one for the Fire Dept., two for the ambulance crews [[UPDATE: CONNIE
IN ND HAS VOLUNTEERED TO DO ONE OF THESE. SHE WORKS FOR THE SPIRIT LAKE RES.
AMBULANCE CREW.]] one for the School as a whole, and one for the community
as a whole . 23 total. All the quilts
will be credited to the artist(s) and the Newsgroup.

Email me if you want to contribute. [[UPDATE: EMAIL DR. QUILTER IF YOU WANT
TO CONTRIBUTE A BLOCK.]] Again, the deadline to have quilts in
my hands is Sept. 1, 2005.
