Default My "new" treadle machine

I've put some pictures of my "new" sewing machine up on webshots --
http://community.webshots.com/album/428344461SuSpMV

She was made in Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1922 -- which makes her
older than my Mom! Since I named my Featherweight after my maternal GM,
(Laura), this one is named after my paternal GM (Lucy). Her full
official name is Lucy the Jersey Girl.

She is is a bit worse condition that the Featherweight was when it came
to me. Lots of junk, thread nests, and one "frozen" rusted shut screw
that is driving me nuts, er, um, screwy. So far I have tried WD40 (a
girl's best friend), Gunk brand Liquid Wrench, and have bought two
different ratchet screw drivers. The procedure so far is 1] dump on a
bit of solvent, 2] mutter naughty words. 3] let it soak for 20 minutes
or so, 4] have at it with either a] the ratchet screw driver that fits
under the post that only holds a 1/4" bit or b] the ratchet screw driver
that doesn't quite fit under the post that holds a 3/16" bit, and 5]
mutter more words. Repeat. Repeat. Have a cuppa tea. Go back to square
one. I *need* to get that screw out so I can take out the bobbin case
and clean out the thread nests.

It may be a while before I can get to putting on the new belt she came
with and actually sewing something.

As far as removing the screw, A sewing machine mechanic suggested that
I soak the screw in WD 40 overnight and then use a snubnose screw
driver at a slight angle and bank it with a hammer until it loosens.
Repeat if needed. I did get the stubborn screw on mine lose that way.

Funny you should say that. I just came in to get my hammer! Good thing
DH is away on a business trip though. He gets a tad upset when I use
tools for other than their main purpose ;-)

She looks like a sister of my machine! I hope you have as much fun with her
as I have had with mine.
