CHINESE EMBROIDERY HISTORY & MORE
Source of Info.: http://www.bestorient.com
History of Embroidery [What is embroidery] Original Chinese Embroidery is done entirely by hand with a needle pulling colored threads through the background materials. It requires infinite patience and skill. No loom is used, but the silk is stretched on a frame. The design is drawn on plain materials. [The history] As a folk art, Chinese embroidery has been popular for 2500 years. Silk and embroidery are the main products transported along the ancient China Silk Road to Europe. Su embroidery, Xiang embroidery, Yue embroidery and Shu embroidery are the four most famous types of embroidery in China. Our store is specializing in Xiang embroidery. [Why Xiang embroidery is so special] Xiang Embroidery has won many awards abroad and known as the ideal embroidery. Most Chinese traditional folk arts such as paintings and calligraphy, which have very simple and limited color, are always printed in black, white or indigo. Unlike these traditional folk arts, Xiang embroidery is very colorful. It draws on the skills of Su embroidery and Yue embroidery. Loose colorful threads are used to embroider exquisite Xiang products. The various colored threads are mixed together, showing a gradual change in color of rich and harmonious tones. Designs on Xiang embroidery are mostly derived from traditional Chinese paintings of landscapes, human figures, flowers, birds and animals. Young design artists today are using more updated and modern graphics to refresh this traditional folk art. The most common designs on Xiang embroidery are kittens, lions and tigers. [The usage of yesterday and today] In ancient China, girls were taught to embroider at a very early age. Just as a young man's learning and intelligence was judged by his technique in calligraphy, a woman was judged by her embroidery skills. When a girl became engaged she had to present pieces of embroidery to all the relatives and friends of her prospective bridegroom for their critical appraisal. The purpose of this appraisal was to determine her embroidery skills. If she was very accomplished, she would be considered as having the ability to manage the household, and therefore, being a good wife for the young man. Of course, embroidery isn't presented today when couples get engaged, instead they present gold and diamond rings to each other and collect lucky money from their friends and relatives today in China. Embroidery now is used for decoration, fashion and daily use items. By displaying a beautiful hand made Xiang embroidery at home or in your office, it not only creates the orient spirit, but also brightens the room and enlivens it. Most of the graphics, such as tigers and peonies, have a special meaning in FengShui. Tiger means strong, powerful and conquer your enemies. Peony means live, pretty and wealth. Fine embroidery was used particularly for royal families or high position governors in ancient China. The ancient Chinese kings used embroidery in their bedcovers, cushions and other accessories in their palaces. Today, you can buy Chinese embroidery and use them as a part of home decoration items. The typical Chinese symbols such as the Dragon and Phoenix gives you little bit royal atmosphere in your delightful home. Our buyers in China carefully select beautiful hand made accessories for ladies, such as lipstick box, jewelry box, hand bag and makeup bag collections. Imagine you are going to a party. Instead of carrying an everyday handbag made from leather or normal textile, you carry a very unique embroidered handbag. It will certainly bring attention to you. Not only because of the handbag, but when you open it there are a number of small bags and boxes to help you to organize your lipsticks, cell phones, coins and etc. For more details: http://www.bestorient.com |
