Default OT ~ need help with spammer hijack

Anyone out there who can help with this?

I got up this morning to find that yet another spammer has highjacked
halseytrading dot com domain as their sending email address. So far today
I've had over 500 "message returned" emails from all over the world come
through my MailWasher program and am quite frankly about ready to quit
business and do something else with my life. I'll have to monitor all the
blacklists now for a few weeks to be sure my domain doesn't show up as that
of a spammer. This is the worst instance of this I've ever had and just
don't have the time to delete all this crap as it comes through.

Do any of you know how I can deal with this positively without closing down
my domain and registering a new one? Or is that the only way to deal with
it? If you want to reply privately please use 627532n at rtinet dot com as
the address otherwise I might miss it in the flood of crap.

Thank you -

Mj

I wish I could help, but I can't. I can sympathise, tho--I just had my
hotmail e-mail address hijacked by someone--I keep having to unsub from at
least 30 newsletters, roughly every two hours, and it's really ****ing me
off.

Nope - I've asked my ISP guru if there is anything that can be done - and he
said no.

Even if you change your ISP -- the plain name would be the same and stuff would
keep coming in.

Drives me crazy too -
My ISP guy did put a filter on my mailbox somehow - that bounces any "MAILER
DAEMON" incoming
so - at least I don't have to "look at it" anymore - even though I know its
going on.....
"out of sight out of mind" is my motto! LOL

AOL got two major spammers convicted of a felony in VA yesterday - and other
spammers will be sought out --
but, I figure they will only stop the US ones -- the overseas spammers will
still be untouchable - so all the spam will probably end up "outsourced"
offshore...
sigh

I don't plan to change my ISP, but I may dump my halseytrading.com domain
and buy another. I hate doing that because I'm sure that no matter how many
emails I send out announcing the change, I'll have lots of customers who
will never change their address book and then will complain they can't reach
me. But I'm up to 700 returns today and counting.

I can't filter the mailer daemon mail because I need to know if any of my
messages going out to customers are being refused for some reason, so that's
not an option. I had my ISP filtering my mail and ended up losing quite a
few legitimate customer emails under their filter protocols.

Bleh.

Marjean, I will be watching this thread with a hopeful heart. Same
thing happened to me. It's really causing problems.

If I had the resources, I would hunt one of these losers down and sue
him/her for lost time and business. And I have never felt inclined to
sue anyone before in my life. Someone needs to be made an example of.

A bit of advice make a contact us page and then put your email on that page.
That way someone has to click another link in order to get to your email
address. Then but it in a structure like:

"If you have any questions, send us an email" Highlight email and put your
email as a link.

This has happened once to me also. But finally they went away. Be sure to
contact your ISP to let them know this is going on and see if they can do
anything. Maybe even cut off your email for a little while and see if that
stops the perp. Even if it is for an hour or so. Try to see when you are
getting the most messages and do it during that time. That way customer
messages will bounce back and it will stop the perp. for a little while. To
possibly discourage them.

I am just throwing ideas out there. I don't know if they will work or not.
If so let us know.

nope - that won't work - they will find it..
they surf the web - find a URL - and start using it
I have only ONE "valid" mail address
but - they will just start with
webmaster@ xyz.com

etc -- they will make up names

all of these will, of course bounce

MJ --
That's why my ISP filters everything except webmaster@ and my "authorized" @
dragonbeads.com email address - because all the rest are "bogus" and I need
not look at them OR worry that they are a lost customer....
ask your ISP if they can filter out all the "bogus" addresses at the least -
then you won't have so much.

I still get bounced spam that uses my own valid email - but it is a lot fewer.

What my cousin does is makes a graphic with his email address on it and
makes it a mailto link. Maybe that can help for the future.
