OT About those silver colored cars...
"Previous studies have suggested that white or light colored cars have
fewer car crashes, but in this study, silver cars had dramatically fewer crashes. "Silver cars were about 50% less likely to be involved in a crash resulting in serious injury than white cars," writes lead researcher S. Furness, an epidemiologist with the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Researchers also found: Brown cars were least safe: Occupants in brown cars had the highest risk of serious injury in car crashes. Occupants in black and green cars had a slightly lower risk than in brown cars, but the risk of injury was higher than in white cars. Occupants in white, yellow, grey, red, and blue cars all had medium-range injury risk -- between silver and brown. The researchers say increasing the proportion of silver cars on roads may be a potential strategy for reducing injury from car crashes." SOURCE: Furness, S. I don't want to nitpick, but was the study really based on percentages or
numbers? In other words, do people with silver cars have less accidents because there are less silver cars on the road or because they are better/more careful drivers? DH and I both drive silver! though mine is a bluish silver.
Since they are almost always covered in mud from November to March, does that count as brown? or are we still safe? g .. Yeah, but silver cars are the hardest to find in the parking lots! Unless,

We had a silver car for a few years. I always had the feeling that we were
invisible. People pulled out in front of us, and cut back in our lane as if we weren't there. This, mind you, was just in the driveway; out in real traffic was terrifying. I feel much safer in the big truck, especially if we are coming from afar. (Oh my, I just couldn't help myself. Back to the coffee pot.) Polly "frood" wrote in message r.com... There are silver minivans everywhere here! I counted 33 in a small lot
before I found my car. And they all have car seats, so I have to look - acid green matching flower power ones? Flames on the front? That must be mine! -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply "Bonnie" wrote in message ... frood wrote: Yeah, but silver cars are the hardest to find in the parking lots! Any car that blends with the road is difficult to see, as are motorcycles.
Maybe silver car drivers are like motorcyclists - always aware of potential dangers. Always paying attention to what is going on, because people truly do not see them. This could be why they don't tend to get involved in accidents. It's a shame that more drivers weren't taught that when you are driving, it is the most important thing you are doing and you should have your complete attention on the driving and nothing else. That driving involves more than putting the car in gear and stepping on the gas - it involves looking and watching (including in the rear view mirrors) and paying attention to everything going on around you. My friends truck driving husband says you wouldn't believe what he's seen people doing while speeding down the highway. -- Teresa in Colorado The Presser Foot Sewing Machine Sales, Service, Supplies, and More www.thepresserfoot.com -- "Polly Esther" wrote in message hlink.net... Our Camry is the dark silver or grey. YOu know the one
there are tons of? DS was hit around 8am on a quiet Sunday, nobody was on the road but him and the old guy that hit him. The road had just been repaved and in that light it was much like the car color. I feel sure if it had been a different color he might have been seen. Luckily it was new with great air bags. He was headed to volunteer at a CHP safety fair of all things. He hopped out of the car and ran to check on the other car passengers where the guy started complaining about teenage drivers. (the guy was totally at fault) Go figure. I hold a grudge and DS has a mission to get old drivers off the road! If I have a choice I like white cars but usually we go for price and sometimes the choice is not there. Taria, I'll be driving my Winstar for a while it seems The HairyFacedOnes 'N Me wrote: "Previous studies have suggested that white or light colored cars have fewer car crashes, but in this study, silver cars had dramatically fewer crashes.
