Default BTW, where is everybody?

LOL, seems like everyone's gone home...almost no messages today.

Here in B'more, we *finally* have a break from the heat, so maybe people
are just out and about, making the most of a glorious day! It's so good
to turn off the A/C and breathe fresh air and hear the cicadas.

This year is definitely one for the record books, from 4 feet of snow in
Feb. to 39 days of more than 90 degree heat, and it's only mid-July.

I spent 2 hours this am pulling the crab grass that has invaded
everything, including the ivy. it was the first day in ages that the
humidity and temps had dropped enough for me to even think
about yard work. Once done with that and lunch it
was time to take DM for her dr appt. Since then I've been caught
up in "The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest." Haven't picked
up a needle since yesterday.

It was so nice last night to turn off the A/C and open the windows.
We haven't had as many days in the 90s as you but enough is
enough. I've spent more time inside during this heat spell than
I did during the snows.

Your day sounds much like mine! Yesterday I yanked out a bunch of
Virginia creeper that had begun to creep up the side of the house
(brick). And the weeds are so thick there, it's just 'grab a handful of
vegetation and pull, pull, pull.' And pray that none of it is poison
ivy! The weeds are completely overgrowing other weeds. (How do they do
that when nothing else is growing because of little rain and hot, hot
sun? LOL!)

And for me, it's a Jo Nesbo book ("Nemesis"). I'm on the last bit now,
where the facts of the case are beginning to fall into place, and it was
very hard to put it down to get on with some other chores!

Finally it's cool enough to sit out on the deck and stitch. I'm trying
to decide on colors to finish personalizing a sampler, and doing it in
sunlight it essential.

I was at the County Fair Tuesday through Friday of last week with
other members of our EGA chapter, demonstrating needlework, answering
questions and just chatting with people walking through the building.
The weekend before I hiked 7 miles (3 up & 4 down) over a mountain to
the Oregon Caves and back the next day. This past weekend, I hiked
over but DH & a buddy picked me up. Today I taught a needlework class
to two girls (there were supposed to have been 3 but the other girl
stayed at camp for an extra week) at the local library. The project
idea came from a magazine but I don't remember right now which one it
was. We drew a pencil line around each girl's hand on a piece of
fabric and then the girls stitched along the line. They had an art
class to go to right after the needlework class so we didn't take the
extra time to cut off the excess fabric from around the back of the
hoop and run a line of glue around to finish it. I told "Mom" that,
if she preferred, she could take a thread and gather the excess fabric
on the back instead of cutting it off. For this class, since the
girls were 12 & 14, we used variegated floss and did a simple back
stitch. Then they added their initials and the year. At the end of
the class, each girl took her skein of floss and the needle home with
her. For the class with smaller kids, I will give them a choice of
one of two solid colors and have them do a dotted line around and
then, if they choose, fill in the line on a return trip. That class
isn't for another two weeks, though, so I have time to think about
it.
