Isn't everything here an AD?
(Hence the "Marketplace" in the newsgroup name) :-)

Ebay Url's are annoying (especially for us sellers).
Another way around it (be it not the best) is to set your wrap lines longer
when you send it.
I have tried the "tinylink" method but sometimes they lock up or linger.
Not a good way to direct traffic. :-(

I am sorry I posted to rec.crafts.beads and any other newsgroups that I
posted the ad to that weren't for ads. I am extremely new to this and
didn't realize there was a set rule. I figured, "hey it's beads, I'm
trying to let people know about my beaded stuff, so I'll post here".
That's how Yahoo! Groups work so I thought this was the same. Guess I
did a blunder *blush* sorry. I just want people to know about my sales.

They are my first jewelry auctions and I really want them to sell. I
put lots of love and attention, not to mention high quality materials,
into every piece I make, so I want each piece to do well. I know it's
highly unlikely with all the competition out there, but one can hope,
right?

My boyfriend suggested google groups and showed me this program - Xnews,
so I dove in head-first. I didn't even see posts with AD on them
listed. Anyway, If anyone has an idea on how I can get the word out
about my sales I'm more than willing to listen since I have only 18
hours until one of my bracelet's auctions ends and it has no bids.

With Xnews I don't know how to change the margins, if it's even
possible. I have put a page on my site linking to all my auctions
though and that address is shorter, but I'm worried my account will get
overmaxed frequently with so much traffic.

Sorry again,

Elaine

By the way, I see you have a bracelet listed as "genuine lazurite". I don't
think there's any such animal. It sounds like one of those "stones" created
from rock dust and binding, colored to approximate something between lapis
lazuli and azurite.

Ok, first off I'm sorry I am doing "wrong" things here, but if anyone
would make a manual for newsgroups I'd be the first to buy it. I'm only
familiar with Yahoo groups which are nice and simple compared to this.
I'm also new to posting and selling anything. I took cross-posting from
a suggestion in the program I'm using - Xnews. I didn't know it was
something that was "frowned upon" by readers. As for the AD thing, I
didn't see a single post with that on it and still have only seen a
select few with it. FA & FS seems common on marketplaces, so I've
started using those on them and will use AD on the others now that I
know.

When one is new one blunders numerous times, you all know that, yet you
criticize just as harshly as if I was a veteran at this. Lighten up
alittle will you? I'm not some evil spammer out to make your lives
miserable, so don't treat me like one.

As for the genuine lazurite, there IS such a thing. Lapis Lazuli is
mainly Lazurite with Calcite and Pyrite intrusions. My stones are
lazurite, without the large intrusions of calcite and pyrite. Any light
patches in my stones are faint traces of calcite. See here for pictures:

http://www.mineralminers.com/html/lazmins.stm

I may not know my newgroup etiquette, but I know my stones.

Oh good. I'm glad you're sticking around to ask questions.

Cross-posting -- One of the problems with it is that many people cross-post
to several groups but don't participate in any. That's not being part of a
newsgroup; it's just spamming. Also, what works in one group might be a
no-no in another group. Like the AD thing here.

This group, RCB, is for sharing information. We sometimes show off
something we've done which is posted on a web site. If it's something on
eBay, it's supposed to have "AD" in front of it. This doesn't always
happen, but, for example, we have 4 of them (threads) today. If someone
wants to share a picture of something someone else has for sale that they
like, then they don't write ad; and usually there are a bunch of them in a
post.

We also share information about tutorials, where someone might look for a
specific item, sites about photographing bead stuff for portfolio or eBay.

When we share stuff that's personal, or about the weather we are supposed to
put OT (off topic) in the subject line. That doesn't always happen either.

"Lurking" is the best way to get a feel for the rules and also a good way to
get a feel for personalities. I don't think anybody really came down hard
on you. But I say that, knowing the personalities here. Believe me, RCB is
one of the most friendly groups I've ever come across. Very co-operative,
eager to help. So please don't take offense where nothing personal was
intended. I will admit you might have gottn a couple short responses due to
a couple of people around here who were spamming here on purpose.

Thanks for the link. And the correction.

I went to look it up in my Audubon (and yes, I should have done that before
my other post) too. I see that the lazulite in your link comes from
Afganistan. Is that where the stone you got is from? I see we also have it
in North America, and that it also goes by the name lapis lazuli here.
There was another stone I went to first because it was first in the index.
Lazulite. They look very dissimilar except for general color. The
structure of Lazulite looks more translucent and crystaline, though I see
the lazurite from afganistan has a crystal structure too.

How did you get your background in rocks ? Geology? Jewelry? Traditional
properties?

I'd like to invite all of you at, RCM to come take a peak here at RCB.
We're a bead group (not other crafts, except periferally) but since many
people here sell their products, there's a lot of good marketing information
here. Kandice is especially good for marketing information.

Thanks for your response.

Tina
