lustre silver
Hi.
I was at a craft fair today and spent some time talking to silversmith Brett Payne. He was telling me about a new product called Lustre Silver. I looked it up and it purports to have firestain resistance and anti tarnishing properties. I wondered if anyone on this news group has tried it yet. Cheers, Ruth in the UK |

More info follow links at http://www.touchmetal.com/blog/argentium-blog.htm It was possible to get it thru Finland...(Lustre Silver name hints of a Finnish source) - this has now 'dried out' ....at the moment it seems that we in UK can only get it from the States.. I have been trying to buy it for the last 6 months...Cookson's UK claims that they will have in Sept - but this is not absolutely sure. (due to having been building my workshop 24/7 for the last 2 years - my search has not been 100% efficient)........... Because of export/shipping costs - not worth bying small qnties. People are now trying to buy it in bulk. Perhaps you could contact me by e-mail...And we can try to sort something out regards norwick |

Cheers, Ruth in the UK I don't know what is involved in getting an import from the US, but Rio Grande has a version of anti-firescale casting sterling. Generally, we will get five or more people and make a mass order. Rio Grande does have bulk discounts. That should make it a bit easier on importing it, too. (www.riogrande.com) I did some casting with this material several years ago. It works OK, but I didn't like it very much. I do like the look of 'antique' silver (black in the background). Also, it seemed to be less dense than copper-silver sterling. This is very odd because the specific gravity is the same out to the second decimal place! Charlie |
