Default Length of a string of pearls

I have a small double string or pearls I want to sell on Ebay, but I'm
not
sure what the convention is for describing the length of a string. With
the
clasp open, from end to end, the double strand measures 17.5". I'm
guessing
this is the length to give in the listing, but since when worn (clasp
closed) they measure approximately 8.75", I thought maybe this would be
the
measurement used. If you went into a jewelry store that sold them,
which
figure would they use?

TIA

Dan

The 17.5 inch figure. How long they drape is variable, depending on the curves
at top and bottom, so it's not useful. Use the overall actual length.

Thanks Peter, I thought that was the case but I wanted to be sure.

BTW the pearls measure ~5.7 mm (this measured with a micrometer). Is it the
established practice to refer to them as 6 mm pearls?

yes. Any strand of pearls will be a range of sizes. 6mm pearls usually means a
range from above 5.5 to 6.0mm, on average.
