Second step. Pass the yarn under the first needle hook, left of the wire guide. With your right hand, turn the handle clockwise and pass the yarn behind the next needle hook. Continue on this way, until the yarn passes into the wire guide and then into the tension arm. Go on turning the handle clockwise until it stops. I just remembered, this bit needs clarification. The yarn will NOT go into the wire guide by itself! You go under, behind, under, behind, etc. until you run out of needles when the dial stops. Then you lead the yarn behind the last needle and into wire guide and tension arm, if I remember correctly. With directions like these, it's no wonder Miss Barbie has to take a break when it doesn't go right the first time! LOL! I love the part in the that says "take a break and try again, patiently
in a little while"! I can't imagine how many frustrated parents lost their cool trying to figure out those badly written instructions! I *was* able to figure it out and am happily knitting lots and lots of panels. For what, I don't know yet! Thanks, again! You could alternate the strips for a wide-rib blanket, perhaps using tubes for a hem-like side edge and adding fringe to the top and bottom.
