Default "ribbon" scarf

Hi all,
A while (like a year or so ) I bought a skein of 1/8" thick flat "yarn"
(it's really more like ribbon). It's a really pretty, variegated
blue/green - looks kind of ocean-like. Anyway, I thought I'd make a scarf.
Finally did it - just a plain garter stitch because I thought the colours
should sort of stand on their own. But, it doesn't look good at all. So, a
couple of questions:

1. would you think that a lacier type of pattern might work, and does
anyone have any suggestions; or

2. to be honest, I never wear a scarf - I just couldn't think of anything
else to make with it and it was sooooo pretty. Any other ideas on what
could be made. I was thinking of perhaps a basket, or maybe as an accent on
a vest, or ???

Any ideas?

Shirley

What size needles did you use? I have done several scarves with ribbon yarn,
using just a garter stitch, and they look lovely. I used big needles,
though.

I have some ribbon that I haven't knit up yet, but I bought it to do a
scarf after the model in the store which was a "wrap and drop" pattern:
start with garter stitch, but every fifth row, you knit one, wrap one
all the way across, knitting the last one. In the sixth row, you knit
the knit stitches and drop the wrap. This creates a lacy effect that
shows the ribbon off very nicely, IMO.

You could also use the ribbon as fringe or as a contrast in a sweater or
larger piece with a different yarn of a complementary color.

Shirley,

I made my 2 DD's the Eros Scarf pattern from Plymouth. I've posted that
URL here before, but here it is again:
http://www.plymouthyarn.com/home/freepatterns.html I also tried just a
garter stitch scarf first, but this "pattern" turned out more attractive
IMHO. I might even consider wearing this one myself even though I don't
wear scarves either,

Another pattern I made last year was the Deco-Ribbon bag found he
http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns//deco_knit_bag.htm I also used a
variegated ribbon "yarn" and love the way this came out.

the Eros Scarf BRBR

I made a very attractive scarf with one skein of Eros (silvery gray) with one
skein of Paton's Katrina (black) using the garter stitch. It's short and meant
to be worn with indoor clothes rather than with a coat.

I also made a short scarf using only the garter stitch with the Eros yarn--it
looks gorgeous! It dresses up my somewhat bland suits.

Shirley , i once had a ribbon thread and made a lacy summer shirt for
my daughter
number of stiches should be divisible in 5
row 1
k5 , k1 wrap x1, k1 wrap x2, k1 wrap x3, k1 wrap x2 , k1 wrap x1
,,,,repeat till end
row 2 knit the knit and loosen the wraps so their neighbour st will
elongate.
row 3 knit
row 4
k1 wrap x1, k 1 wrap x2 , k1 wrap x3, k1 wrap x2, k1, wrap x1, k5
,,,repeat till end of row
---------this 5 rows are your pattern ,,, show ribbong off very well ,
