By and large, this is a friendly and cordial place. In my NEVER
HUMBLE opinion, it would be a shade more friendly if all the
posts were signed! Sometimes I come across a fragment of a post &
I want to know WHO wrote a particular message and have to scroll
around to find out. It would be so much easier if people just
wrote their name!

Yes, I do realize you have the senders listed. BUT, not every
sender I.D. is the same as the person's name. (Example, frood is
I.D. for Wendy, a charming quilter who ALWAYS signs her posts.)
Not signing a post is like not signing a birthday card just
because you put a return address on the envelope. That's what I
think anyhow!! This is not a flame against any person. It is just
a request to make the excellent messages even more enjoyable.
Thanks Bunches!!

Pat, I agree with your message as well. I use Google to read the
postings when I can't get to my newsgroup reader through OE, and I
don't have a siggy set up on google as I do in OE, so I may have left
my name off a post or two.

But the real reason for my reply is to share with you all that when I
use Google, I also look at the 2 or 3 ads that appear on the right side
of my screen. They are generally related in some way to the topic of
the messages that appear on that screen. When I read your message,
Pat, the ads that appear are for "Universal Fire Shield - fire
retardant applications", "Flame Resistant Fabric" and "Tension Fabric
Structures". The latter no doubt originating from your references to
"shade and posts". Interesting how they cull a particular topic from
one word in a message about quilting and signatures.

You're very welcome bunches!

Hey, that "universal fire shield" would come in handy in event of
a flame war!! But we don't do that here. Have a great day, Alice.

No, I'm sure those ads are in direct reference to me. ;-)

That's strange. I use Google to read the newsgroup and I don't have any
ads. I have ads on my Google e-mail but not when I read the newsgroup
through Google Groups.

Sorry - I 'clicked' a tad too quickly yesterday and then had to do a
follow on message to put my signature!

I usually remember though - I hope - and my name really is Sally (well
actually its Sarah but only the Doctor, Tax Man etc call me that, and
I never know who they're talking about!.

That's strange. No ads down the right side? Are you using a PC or a MAC?

I'm on a Mac (only thing DH will allow) and I use Google to read the
group.

I love those little ads on the right hand side. They are always
relevant to the topic of the post and they have on occassion helped me
find sites with patterns and such.

my two cents,
Tina

Maybe you have some ad-stopper software?

Some don't like to worry about being flamed - maybe that's why they don't
sign. Also some have a lot of fear about ID theft and don't want to sign.
My internet moniker is copyright protected but if my name were mary i would
have no such protection. And - finally - this is a NG and we aren't being
graded on rules composition, are we? If so - better flunk me now. I don't
worry about composition, sentence structure or even spelling. To me that's
enjoyable.
