Default Problem with knitting stitch book

Pamjam , it is not your fault that it was puzzeling ,, i have met many
a veteran knitter who gets confused by the MATH of it [ pssst you know
we are all Hidden Math experts !!! So well hidden that it took me
years of knitting to understand that i made some interesting
calculatings !!!] Once you got the secret ..... you will know it ...
I try to teach new knitters that it is Math ,,,, [ good for the brain
to use it !!!] most GET it , but the few who refuse ,,, ###########

Thank you all so much for all the help. I see now that I didn't know
how to interpret the lace patterns correctly but since you've explained
it the patterns are working perfectly now. I don't know what kind of
brain block I had going on up there but it seems you've tunneled through
it!
Thanks so much!
