Thanks Noreen, for some reason I thought you knew about Pine from a very old
message which I don't have any more.

David....
I don't HAVE pine, so can't answer your query anyway!
I only saw this as I was exit-ing, and thought you deserved at least an
acknowledgement that I had seen it.

Wow, really? That was my first news reader, and I loved it. It was
really fast and I could read TONS of newsgroups and sift things out
nicely in a short period of time.

Those were the days before the WWW, though, and I don't know how I would
handle surfing to web links on PINE, though.

Melinda, since you've used it, you might be able to answer David's question.

Hi melinda,

I originally asked for Noreen to email me about this since it's off-topic
for this group. I want to know how do I change my email address when posting
to a ng so I don't get spam

I'm using Pine 4.61 on a unix shell to read ng's and also email on this
account - I've set up Pine so I can click on and visit a link using Lynx, a
text-only browser which has been on all Unix accounts I've used. There are
two or three settings in the configuration section of pine to set this up.

As I understand it, there is also a Windows version of pine.

Thanks

David

I am so sorry. I have no idea how to do it. Back when I was using it,
that wasn't so necessary. Have you tried Googling for a manual?

Thanks melinda - I didn't find a simple "how to", although hopefully I've
got it working properly now.

Here's what I do. Where you have the at sign, just write "at", and where
there is a period or dot, just write "dot", with spaces between the words.
I'm guessing (but could be wrong) that the "wapvi" doesn't belong in your
addy shown here, so you could also tell people to leave out whatever doesn't
belong.

If my e-mail address were , I would write it as shelagh at
cat dot howl.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Shillelagh,

I'd tried that several times over the years without success. After someone
else here suggested googling, that's what I did *chuckle* and found the
cumbersome solution.

I have PINE also, though I use trn for newsgroups. I didn't know it
was possible to change the email address. Could you drop me an email
and tell me how?
