Default That makes three!

I don't think that any of the textile crafts will every disapear, it sort
of comes and goes with a very solid core in the center that is going back
eons.....(big smile)

What goes around comes around......

Els

I was in Old Salem, NC, last week and they had various small kits for kids to
learn various crafts.
There was one for tatting along with the usual - they made it sound easy and
fun. (I had a hard time as a kid when my mother tried to teach me - but I know
that she did it at school as a child.)
Crafts are a big deal in the North Carolina mountains - I got lots of ideas and
also came home with some homespun, home dyed yarn.

Good to hear you had a great time.

I was demonstrating yesterday at an alpaca farm. This farm was on the
anual summer farm tour. I had a great time talking and spinning and
teaching lots of folks how to make a alpaca kumihimo braid. Always pick
up great ideas as well. A 4-H girl also demonstrating felt making showed
me a new way fo easy felting....Ophelia....this is for you:

Even though the principle of felting is the same, the way you get there
was a new one for me. She used a round lid of a margarine container. In
it she fluffed the alpaca fleece, a nice fat fluffy layer. (I introduced
her to a spray bottle with cold sudsy water, in stead of pouring hot water
over it). She put her hand on the lid filled with the alpaca fibers, she
spread her fingers and sprayed it with the sudsy water. Pushed it all
down in to the inside of the lid, turned the lid over and rubbed it in
circular motions over the cookie sheet it was sitting on. After 25 to 30
turns she turn the little wet batt over and did the same on the on the
side, she repeated the two moves until it was all done. Another great way
to make felt with kids. I had her braiding a kumihimo braid out of alpaca
yarns....oh so lovely. In a very short time there were 5 other people
braiding as well. i came also home with lots of alpaca pictures....These
animals have great personalities and very different faces and their
hairdos are an absolute hoot, their eyelashes just gorgious. The new
babies precious.
I bartered a watercolour of an alpaca for a skein of soft brown alpaca
fine two ply hand spun. i love events like that...good for the textile
soul.
