Default help with reading a pattern

This is for a crochet sweater but the confusion isn't in the crochet
technique, it is in the pattern so you knitters may be able to answer
my question too.

I'm crocheting a lovely cable cardigan. A Leisure Arts pattern
(Classic Crocheted Cardigans). As with most patterns, there are
instructions for three sizes. I'm doing the largest size.

It will be easier if I give the instructions for the first three rows:

"CH 74 {79-84} loosly.

ROW 1: DC in fourth ch from hook and in each ch across: 72 {77-82}
sts.

ROW 2: (right side): Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout),
turn; dc in next dc, work Cable *dc in next 4 {5-6} dc, work cable;
repeat from * across to last 2 sts, dc in last 2 sts: 6 cables.

Row 3: Ch 3, turn: dc in next dc, work BPdc around next 8 FPtr, *dc
in next 4 {5-6} dc, work BPdc around next 8 FPtr; repeat from * acros
to last dc, dc in last dc."

Now with the extra stitches I chained at the beginning I do have 6
cables but I have 8 dc after the last cable. This seemed fine while
working row 2 because I did my 6 dc and dc in the last two. Now row 3
has neglected the extra dc I put in for the size change. Do I just dc
over them and work the BPdc around the FPtr as directed? Will the
cables look off center because they start 2 stitches from one side and
8 stitches from the other side?

It seems like an oops but this is the most complicated sweater I have
crocheted yet.

Thanks,
Laurie

Hi!

I had to read through that several times before I figured where they
were putting the extra stitches from the other sizes (I kept missing it)!

OK - your cables should stay centered, no matter what size you do - the
trick is that in each larger size the cables get 1 stitch further apart.
.. . the trick is in the repeat part, after * see you work 2 'extra'
stitches on the largest size inbetween each cable - there's where your
10 extra stitches should disappear to. For all sizes there are 2 dc on
each side.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense, I can try to resay it another way.

Good luck - looks like a fun sweater.
