Liz - I don't know if Elmer's is available in the UK but I've seen Mod Podge.
Thanks for these suggestions.

Sorry about that, Anne--I forgot you're in the UK. Elmer's is a white
glue that dries clear, is non-toxic and used in primary schools. I
looked on Google for a UK substitute and found Pritt Childsplay White
Craft Glue. It was a little less than two pounds. Hope it works for you. :-)

Liz .... guess what - I've actually got some of that in the cupboard!!!
I'm away to experiment... thanks

Default Acrylic Gel Medium

Basic acrylic polymers can be purchased from www.specialplasters.co.uk
I use their SP201 base to coat fabrics and I know that the Artist's
canvas maufacturers use it mixed with whiting to prep the canvas.
It can also be used in plaster to make it more like a resin but
without the smell ! You may have to gel it by adding some cellulose

Anyone know if there's a cheaper alternative or substitute for Acrylic Gel
Medium? Here in the UK it's a bit pricey!
