Default Hand On Hip, Looking Indignant

Sheesh! I go away for a week, and this place goes to
hellinahandbasket!! Where is everyone? All hanging out over at
alt.sewing? I spent the day there, catching up on posts, and expected to
find dessert here, but there are scarcely any posts. Whaddya think it
is, summer vacation? Front and center, sew folk!! Report in, and post
yer projects!

Ok Cea, Ok. I'm making a jumper for my wife. Only thing is it ain't anything
simple and easy. The skirt part is going to have the appearance of a kilted
skirt.. It's gonna be loads of fun attaching the skirt to the bodice and
getting it to look right.

old lurker waves--with cast on one fractured arm, wrist gauntlet on the
other broken wrist, and two sprained ankles. ( two separate falls down the
back porch steps. 'nuff said) needless to say...not much sewing going on,
here. finally have permission to keyboard a bit, now!
back to lurking...and plotting...and wishful thinking...

I haven't sewn in quite some time (other stuff goin' on...), but I taught my DD
to knit this week (took all of five minutes, the little whippersnapper!) and she
was so excited, I thought I'd make her a 'knitting basket' to celebrate. She's
made a LUSK (Long Useless Strip of Knitting) about four inches long, plain and
purl, thus far.

So, I searched out her tiny little butcher's basket (the baby one about ten
inches long). It matches my big workbasket and she used to carry it about when
she was a toddler. Anyway, I lined the inside with some pink quilted fabric I'd
had hanging around, waiting to make a shoebag for ballet. Never did that... it
came in handy for *this* project! I attached some gathered matching pink cotton
fabric with tiny white printed hearts and included some white cotton piping
between. I trimmed the edges with some white-and-pink lace I had stashed away
and made little cotton bow-ties at the sides.

DD was *over*joyed to see her little basket when she arrived home from school.
I'd forgotten how nice it is to be able to provide moments like that for my
kids...

Must sew again soon! ;-D

De-lurking for this one. Next Saturday I get to go the garment district in
L.A. to buy fabric for a formal for a friend for the Labrynth Ball this
month! The only drawback, I have no money to buy goodies for myself! Oh
well, since I get to have a good bit of say in the fabrics and design this
should be fun!

I'm so sorry to hear about your injuries! Take care of yourself and get
well soon.

Hi,

Welcome back. Hope the week away was vacation time and you had fun.

After working for the same company for 30 years, they handed me an early
"retirement" package. Accepted!! Now in the process of remodeling my
basement into the sewing room of my dreams.
I'm too young to collect on my pension without stiff penalties, so I'm
giving serious thought to starting my sewing business. Since I can't get to
my machines during the remodel (7 weeks) I've been spending the time reading
everything I can about the sewing industry. So far, so good.
