Default Jewelry Design Book

Can someone recommend a good book on jewelry design? I've looked at the
descriptions of several online, and it looked like they were talking more
about how to make the jewelry. I'm looking for one that covers design
elements and considerations. Thanks!

A required text for "small scale sculpting: Jewelry 1401" in the four
year fine art degree program at UTA years ago when I attended is
"Design Basics" third edition by David Lauer. You may or may not like
this text, i do. Hope I could help.

You might start with
http://www.ScienceOxygen.com/design67.html
http://www.ScienceOxygen.com/gadget149.html
http://www.ScienceOxygen.com/gadget168.html

It does not sell any books over there. It
is just with a collection of links on this field.
You might start from there to collect some
information...

It seems odd to respond to this query since I'm almost entirely a
spectator. But I looked up Robert (?) von Neumann's
Design and Construction of Jewelry on Amazon to see what related
books might be found. Saw numerous recommendations for:

The Art of Jewelry Design: From Idea to Reality (Jewelry Crafts)
by Elizabeth Olver (Hardcover)
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars

which I have not seen at all, nor any books by this author.

There's something to be said for tying design principles to
construction techniques, because it will constrain one's
designs to what is feasible (in general or one's own skill
level.)

Another suggestion often heard is to learn something
about drawing. I'm fairly sure there's books devoted to the
jewelry field in particular.

These last thoughts remind me of one of my all-time
favorite books: E.S. Ferguson Engineering and The Mind's Eye.
A sense of what is actually feasible and safe is rather
more important in architecture than in other design fields.

vj found this in rec.crafts.jewelry, from Contrarian

**sigh**
now you tell me.
every time i turn around, i'm sketching something else, or getting
half-way though a project and asking "okay, now what?"

i've designed myself into more than one corner that way.
