Drafted my first pattern
I made a pair of jodhpurs recently. Ridiculous things - just a
one-off for a party. I'll be wearing them together with jackboots and a rather 19th century military jacket for a "Ruritanian Space Cavalry" look. http://www.livejournal.com/users/que...ml?view=226446 The interesting part though was the pattern. It was the first time I'd drafted one just from measurements and guidance notes in "The Modern Tailor, Outfitter and Clothier - the standard trade handbook for pre-war British mens tailoring. |

They look perfect for the part, IMHO.

Very nice job. A handsome costume.
I'll be glad when I can get back to playing with pattern drafting. My modis opperandi is to buy 3 to 6 books on a subject, chew on all of them, then select the one which makes the most sense to me. I have the 2nd ED of 'Patterngrams', by Nancy Olson, 'How To Make Sewing Patterns', Donald H. McCunn, and 'Make Your Own Patterns', Rene Bergh. Of the three, Rene Bergh's book spoke to my logic. I enjoyed working with it, and am anticipating a return to the adventure. Yippie-Skippie, in other words. Cea (admiring all of those polished brass buttons.) |

They're the only part that actually cost a noticeable amount of money - the fabric was a bargain from Croft. Croft Mill have me heart nailed to their walls! ;P It's a terrible shame that they have lost the chimney - visiting will never be the same again... Some day, Melinda, I will get truly modernized, I promise. Right
now, I'm up for a camera so I can post links to photos here. Cea |
