A quick question
Please, help me to calculate, how many bricks does it take to build an
average woodfire kiln? Have to make some sense about my future expenses. Greetings, A. |

My kiln is pictured on http://www.mudslinger.demon.co.uk/web2 follow the
PWF links to the last page. The bricks are 9 X 4.5 X 3 inches in size, single layer, dry laid. The pictures are clear enough for you to count them! The kiln is approximately 12 cu. ft. capacity, can be fired by one person at a pinch, tho' two makes it easier, cone 12 in a day with an overnight warm up. Great fun. This depends on what you call average, the design of the kiln, the thickness of the wall, what you intend to build the stack out of. . . I'd suggest trying to get a hold of 'The Kiln Book' by Olsen. You can often find older editions on Ebay for less than $20. deg -- Steve Mills Bath UK |
