Heelstone Statue Sculpture, Stonehenge
Arrival of the Celts in Britain around the eighth century B.C. was
previously an event shrouded in mystery and myth. There was no direct physical evidence of invasion or even of immigration, but it had long been believed Celtic arrival in the British Isles was part of the north and west expansion of these Iron Age people. As artifacts began to be found, there seemed to be a common Celtic artistic style across Europe, with characteristic curving lines and the mingling of human and animal forms.
