Hand Quilting Pricing ?

I have been looking at the hoops and have been considering that. Thanks for
the suggestion. I need something to give the quilt stability. I'm not one of
these people who can just pick it up and hold it without some kind of
stabilizer. I would have all kinds of weird edges. LOL. I was talking with
hubby a couple of nights ago about paying someone else to do the quilting
for me. He asked me why I didn't do it myself. So I explained to him about
needing a frame of some kind. He told me to check on some prices and maybe
we can get me one soon. He said that it would make more sense to buy me a
frame rather than sending them out and paying someone to quilt them all the
time. So now I'm on a frame finding mission. Well, I will be after we get
back from Iowa. ;-)

$6.00 I think. Some folks will quilt with neither hoop, nor

mika all the equipment you need for handquilting is a needle, thread and
maybe a thimble to preserve your finger's integrity...

The quilting machine can do just about anything -- the limitation is the
skill of the person operating it.

Whether you go with hand or machine quilting, any time you hire someone
to do your quilting for you, ask to see samples of their work.
Especially samples of work similar to what you want. You want to make
sure that person can do a job you'll be happy with.

As to what's a fair price, that will depend on the complexity of the
work you want done. I understand most hand quilters charge by how many
yards of thread are used. A lady in our guild was showing off a queen
size that was hand quilted with 200 yards of thread -- there sure wasn't
much quilting on it. I would have liked to have seen 3 or 4 times as
much quilting, but that's just me.

Every machine quilter has a different method of pricing, but ultimately
it should have some relationship to how many hours of work it will take.
(And the skill of the quilter. Someone who has put some work into the
craft may charge more per hour, but the results should also look better
for the same number of hours.)
