Default Plating over real leaves

Some years ago my mother purchased a leaf-shaped pin at a local craft fair.
She doesn't know what the metal is (looks like oxidized copper to me), but
she remembers that it was sold as a real leaf which was metal plated.

The pin is a small ivy leaf and is beautiful! Any ideas of what this might
be and how it might be accomplished?

TIA,
Peggy
