Australian Quilt Research #2
Thought I should start a second thread 'cos I stuffed up the first one
by submitting my reply four times! I was in a hurry to get to my quilt guild I hit the button too many times. So sorry. Anyway, I asked at the meeting about these quilts and to my amazement someone had a book there on 'Patchwork Quilts in Australia' by margaret Rolfe, with an essay and photos on Elizabeth Fry! What a coincidence. Tom, if you can't get a copy of this book, please email me privately and I could photocopy the relevant pages (5) and send them to you. The article does not specifically mention the log cabin quilt, but has photos of two quilts which are displayed in Norfolk Museums Service (Stranger Hall, Museum) UK. [These are possibly the only two that exist of convict origin in UK. It is not known if any convict-made quilts have survived in Australia, possibly none will be ever discovered.]Quote from book. Some comments from my guild members this morning suggested that the log cabin quilt would be from the author's own collection, possibly her own work. Hope this of some small assistance. Bronwyn |
