I'll chime in for Kona Snow. It "reads" white, but is not as stark,
staring white as a paper white or bright-white. Perfect when you want an air of mellowness without muslins darkness or speckles. I have a red and white repro quilt coming up in the future and I would like to get a good quality white fabric for it. I would be willing to buy a whole bolt. I know that I would end up using it. Not looking for an optical white; just regular white better than the muslin that is falling apart on the original quilt. Other news, I have started a new job and I will be out of town for two months during training. I won't be posting as much, but hopefully will be able to read the NG a little on my DH's laptop. I will have email working. I will be in the No. Virginia area (Dulles/ Sterling). The company is putting me in an efficiency type hotel. I am packing my WIPs and my sewing machine to use during "down time." TIA and happy stitching, Julie Richmond, VA Well...I personally prefer plain white fabric over the white on white prints. I don't like quilting thorough the latex-y printing. So, for plain white fabric I like either the P&B plain white fabric or the Kona Cotton plain white. I can get both at my local quilt shop. The Kona brand is a bit heavier and you can see the weave more. The P&B is lighter and smoother. Depends on what I'm matching them up with as to what I use - homespuns with the Kona, Hoffmans and the like kinds of smoother cottons with the P&B. Both seem to wear well and quilt nicely. I know you can order Kona cottons on line at several of the bigger quilt shops. Maybe there is a quilt shop near where you are working - we've got some Virginia people on the list, don't we? Good luck with the job. Hope you really do get some time to work on those projects! marcella |
