Whew!!! I finished it in time to give it for Christmas!!! The last
binding stitch went in this afternoon, and now it's been washed and is
drying all stretched out and flattened and squared on a big sheet on
the upstairs landing.

The picture of the finished quilt is he

Before this shot are some other shots showing close-ups of the machine
quilting. I'm not sure the quilt police would be happy because I made
it up as I went along, but I think it will work for my brother and
sister-in-law!

That is beautiful! I love the colors, so feel free to send it this way if
your brother and sister-in-law decide they don't want it!

Thanks, Louise. That's SO NICE of you to offer to give it a home if
it's rejected.

Wow, Carole! *Great* job!!! The quilting is gorgeous -- forget any quilt
police; if they came around, they'd be blown away!

Thanks, Sandy. Since it was a sampler quilt, I did "sampler
quilting." I'd gotten a couple of Patsy Thompson's DVDs

http://www.patsythompsondesigns.com

and used a lot of her ideas while playing with the quilting. The only
quilting I marked at all was a chalk line where I wanted the feathers
to travel. Everything else was true free-motion in every sense of the
word!

I stitched over all my appliquéd blocks, although I tried to do it in
an embroidery type of fashion. I just didn't trust my handwork for a
bed quilt.

I used Bottom Line for both the bobbin and the top thread and although
it looks kind of shiny on some of my photos, it pretty much blends in
on the quilt in "real life."

Thank you! I think I've reached the end of my gift list. This is the
third time I've said NO MORE BED-SIZED quilts! Next is to finish
quilting three smaller quilts that are piled up and waiting. Two are
basted and the third has the backing and batting bought, but I haven't
made the quilt sandwich yet. I would really like to catch up!!! I
have so many more things ready to start.
