Default squishie etiquette

Hi all,

I'm kinda new to all this squishie thing....

I got the directory mailed to me yesterday and it's great to have everyone's
contact details. My question is this though, I have seen loads of postings
where people are delighted to have been surprised by a squishie and I was
wondering what sort of process you all use to decide who you're going to
send a squishie to?

Is it generally to people you know, or have had lots of contact with? Or is
it for people who are having a birthday or something?

I'd love to get in on the fun and send out a couple of packages, but I'd
hate people to think some weird woman they'd never heard of was stalking
them and sending strange things through the mail!

I'm not in the directory (missed the deadline and didn't realize begging
might have gotten me in....lol) but I would think if you are in there no one
is going to think you're a weird stalker woman. )

As I see it no one would think you were strange if you sent them a squishie. I
just find an FQ or 2 and look down the list to see who would like it and then
just pop it in the post

You can practice on me. I'm in the directory and I promise I won't call
the police!

Hi,
I can't imagine anyone here who get's a squishie thinks the sender
is weird...., atl least I never would think that :-)
As I'm concerned, when I sent squishies ( only a few, I have to
admit ), I picked random names. I selected from the favourite
colours or I selected a country and a name, which sounded
somehow familiar. Just send.... you'll find out that sending
is as much fun as receiving...

OK, you've all reassured me that I won't be locked up for sending fabric to
strangers in the mail!

I've sorted through my stash and will be sending my first four squishies out
tomorrow. I'm not going to say who they're going to, but one is for the
USA, one for Canada, one for Aus and the other is staying right here in the
UK.

Any reason whatsoever is good enough for sending a squishie, to any person
at all. The queen has spoken.

Hullo Morag
I have to say that I felt a bit the same, at first. Not so much the
'stalking' bit; but who to send to?
I kept it in mind for a few weeks reading the NG, and then sent to a few
people chosen for one or other reason from their messages. After that,
I didn't need to question - it all became much easier.
Also, of course, as Flossy said, it does depend a bit on who likes what
you've got to send!

While we're on the subject, it seems that I was told that posting a
thank-you for a squishie on the net was not appropriate, that an email
thank-you or a real thank-you note was better. (Lest the 12,000 of us who
didn't get a squishie feel left out.)
So, Your Majesty and Noble Authority of Squishies, what is the preferred
protocol? Since you are The Queen, feel free to imperiously make up rules.
Who better? Polly

No one would think you are weird. It's quite wonderful to send and receive
squishies. When I send squishies, I write RCTQ by my return address. That
way, the recipient knows that it is safe to open the envelope even though
the name & return address might not be familiar.

I think some thank-yous are posted here because the recipient did not know
the squisher's snail or email addy and wanted to make sure the squisher knew
that the squishy arrived safely and was appreciated.

Squishies can be sent for many reasons including birthdays, just because,
thank-yous for advice, life stress-relievers, congratulations, gesture of
friendship, etc.
