Default Trying to find someone to teach metal engraving

I have an interest in the art of metal hand engraving. I am willing
to invest the time, effort and start up costs associtaed with it but
prior to doing so I was hoping to find somebody who would be willing
to give me some classes (paid of course) on at least the basics. I
realize that there are some schools out there that offer one week
classes and such but most of them are a considerable distance from
where I live. Its just that at this time flying across the country
for a weeks time is probably not possible for me with 2 young boys at
home. I am posting here to see if anybody reading this might know of
somebody in the New England area (I live in Maine) that is skilled in
hand engraving and might be approachable enough for me to contact and
ask for some help. It seems as though the skill is used in jewlery
field, knifes, guns and other areas but even scouring the web has led
up to very few names of those that actually do this as either part of
their job or even as a hobby in my area.

In advance... thanks for any help you may offer.

-Joe

Joe, you mght surf over to Steve Lindseys web site at
http://www.lindsayengraving.com/

I don't know if Steve actually teaches, and he's not in your area. But he
makes and sells some amazingly well made tools for the job, and is, IMHO one of
the best engravers out there. His web site is a true inspiration to you in
pursueing the skill. And, there are some instructional areas there as well, I
think. Some might be accessable only to prior buyers of his tools. Not sure.
but contact him anyway. Very nice and friendly guy, who might be able to steer
you in the direction you wish.

Go to the best in the world, Steve Lindsay! http://www.lindsayengraving.com/

He has a page on instruction at
http://www.lindsayengraving.com/Engraving%20School.htm

Read it and follow the links.

If you are indeed serious you may want to invest in his "AirGraver" Check it
out at http://www.lindsayengraving.com/Engraving%20Tools.htm and
http://www.handgravers.com/

There are several videos at this last site:
http://www.handgravers.com/die_engraving.htm
http://www.handgravers.com/video.htm

An in-depth study of his site is almost mandatory if you want to be an engraver.
