Help with flower girl's dress
I am making a dress for a flower girl. I am not a professional seamstress
but I have sewn many nice dresses. The fabric is a satin with just a hint of shine. It has a 'slub' design that is selvage to selvage. It is probably a dupioni (sp?). I'd say it almost looks to have a linen look. My question is, should I have the 'nap' going horizontally on the dress. Nothing was specified. I wanted to have some consensus when I call the bride and if she is not sure herself, maybe I could make the suggestion. My instinct tells me it should go horizontally like a garment made from linen. The dress is a simple sleeveless, scoop neck with an organza fabric overlay on the long skirt. Thank you for any suggestions, Linda |

Thank you for any suggestions, Linda I'm not a professional either, Linda, but I imagine you'd be careful to cut your pattern pieces following the straight grain of the fabric. Since the grain runs along the fabric (ie along the length of it, not from selvedge to selvedge), I reckon you'd cut with the slubs going acrossways. Does that make sense? (I've just taken a headache pill and am about to nod off... ZZzZzzzz....) ;-D -- Trish {|:-} Newcastle, NSW, Australia |
