Default Story Quilts

I think that's a great idea! What a wonderful memory/story quilt that would
be for her. I have that book on my wish list.

I saw Mary Lou Weidman, author of Whimsies & Whynots, on Simply Quilts
the other day. She really inspired me to make a story quilt.

I would like it to be about my daughter passing the bar exam. She
hasn't passed it yet, she takes it at the end of July. But I expect
her to pass it the first time.

I have an idea I would like to run by you all. Be truthful and let me
know what you think.

I was thinking of having a background that looks like buildings on a
city street with one being a "bar" with a bar sign on it. I would
then have a sytlized "Annie" (my daughter) running by with her
beautiful long blond hair flowing behind her, looking over her
shoulder at the bar. She would have two white cats and a black dog
running with her (her pets). The top would say "She passed the bar"
and the bottom would say "And now she's a lawayh!". She'll get the
"lawayh" bit since that's how one of her favorite radio personalities,
Len Tillem says "lawyer". He's a local attorney who has a call in
show where you really can get legal advice. My daughter admires him
because she thinks he's "the only famous lawyer who actually wants to
help people and not just get rich". Anyway, I digress.

Does that sound like a really silly idea or a clever idea? I can't
make up my mind.

Also, any other "play on words" story quilt ideas about her passing
the bar would be gratefully accepted.

I love it! But, I hear Len Tilliem say it as Loi-yhar...but who knows.
Bet you could go to www.kgo.com and find the "personalities" section and
send him an e-mail and ask for his best guess at spelling to match his
pronounciation. Bet he'd get a kick out of it!

I think its a great idea. You could have so much fun making the buildings
with personality.. flowers in a flower box....etc.
Another, totally different way of approaching it would be to have her in a
boat going past a sand bar. I havent a clue how one would do that but there
is it..just to muddy the waters.
I think your daughter would be delighted to get a quilt such as you
describe.. its such a touching testimony to your faith in her.

I really like it. Maybe you could make a billboard in the background or on
one of the bildings somewhere with the word LEN on it?

Does she have any friends whose names could go on the buildings as well?
Maybe a street sign with the name of the road she takes most often, or the
one outside her dorm. Or just "To Life ---" you know what I mean. Good
luck with this. It sounds wonderful!

I forgot there was a 'style' that had started you off. Sorry!
Of course, if it were me, I'd start a new style!!! but then I'm one of

That is a pretty neat idea. I've kept it to ponder on. The only
problem I would see with it is that it would be harder to make
interesting in the stylized story quilt mode.

I think I'll submit it to my DH along with my idea and have him rough
out some drawings for me. Maybe I'll post the drawings and ask you
all what you think.
