Default machine problem, help please

I just got a Pfaff 2440, and I am sewing along straight stitch piecing, then
the fabric just stops moving along, and the needle sews on ine spot until it
pushes the fabric down in a hole and I can't free the fabric or the thread
mangle. I have adjusted the top tension and reinstalled the bobbin, turned
the SM off and on, cussed at it, begged it, threatened it. Dogs are up and
moving as normal, just not grabbing the fabric and moving it.

What is causing this and how do I make it stop!?

Hi,

I don't know about the 2440, but on my Pfaff 7570, that happens when I have a
piece of thread caught in the tension disks. Did you try flossing them?

Hugs,
Rhoda
