Default gold plating

A guy told me he could gold plate and object which is about as big in
surface area as a small egg. He said he could do it while I waited.

I'd think it'd take a while for the gold to be deposited on the object.

Are there other ways of plating other than electroplating, where the
object is placed in a bath and using electric surrent?

Could be but electroplating is pretty simple these days and it shouldn't
take more that about 20 seconds to do a nice job on the egg.

I was sceptical when I purchased a hobby kit but was in awe after using it.
My only regret is that I bought 24 K juice instead of something lighter. I
thought it was quality related but is only a color factor. The 24K is
rather brassy looking.

All you need is a few oz of the solution and a DC supply. The kit came with
a wall transformer type but I am now using a regulated supply. A 6v lantern
battery or car battery would work as well. That and a small piece of
stainless for the anode is all you need.

Great fun and the quality is as good as the trouble you take to clean the
part first.
