Default OT My trip - the chorus comps - longish

Singing on the international stage was more thrilling than I imagined. I
wasn't at all nervous, just very excited but above all so happy! As a small
chorus we didn't hope to place in the top 10 or even 20. All our director
wanted was to not come last! We entered the comps in last place, with the
lowest regional scores. We moved up 9 places, coming 26th out of 35
competing choruses. Every chorus that scored lower than us was bigger. Size
matters - so to score higher against bigger choruses tells us that we are on
track in terms of our musicianship and sound quality.

But even more thrilling was the sisterhood that is Sweet Adelines. To any of
you singers, I can't recommend it highly enough. The musicianship, the
support, the entire experience is wonderful.

On the plane flying from Indy to Philly a woman grabbed my arm and said in a
Scots accent, "D'ye play netball lass?" I said, "No, I'm too short." She
said, "Oh no, you'd make a grand wing attack." She saw my NZ chorus jacket
and knew where I was from and was thrilled to discuss her beloved netball
with someone who knows the sport. Turns out this lady was an international
referee. It also turns out she lives near my dad and sings with a local
chorus. She introduced me to her director (also on the same plane) and they
invited me to their rehearsal the following Wednesday evening. I went and
had a blast.

I loved Indianapolis as a city. To all you Hoosiers out there, you can be
proud of your state and city. Your legendary hospitality and the beauty and
safety of your city lived up to the reputation. We all enjoyed our stay so
much. The Circle Center Mall was incredible! In between rehearsals we ran
down there as often as we could and shopped up a storm! Many of us took a
tour around the city, including the raceway. I took a long walk along the
White River and visited the museum. I saw a wonderful Japanese quilt
exhibtion which blew me away. If it's still on, I highly recommend you go
see it. My favourite restaurant is now Bucca di Beppo. If you haven't been,
you gotta go!

More later.

Oh my, I've been to one in Minneapolis. It was wonderful! I still talk
about it and that was 2 years ago.

Wow. You done excellent! Congratulations.

Good that you just enjoyed Indianapolis instead of trying to cram too much
into the trip.

How cool. I'm so glad you had a good time and did so well. My mom used to
sing with a group of SA in Wisconsin years ago and loved it.

Well, it's a pretty cool place, although I haven't seen it in ten years. As
one of the Hoosiers on this group, although at heart I'm mostly a
Badger...(born in W. Lafayette when my dad was at Purdue U but grew up in
Wisconsin) I'll say thanks.

I'm glad you had such a great trip and such a good time in the US. It's
really nice to see someone that has enjoyed their visit.
