It's not PayPal per se, although I've occasionally read people griping
about problems with their system.

I just prefer dealing with vendors who are sufficiently well-established
as businesses to have their own credit card merchant IDs. My experience
is that they're probably going to be more business-like in general with
regard to things like shipping and return policies, prompt order
fulfillment and still *being* there if I want to make another order in
the future.

It's just personal preference, not any implied criticism of hobby vendors.

I am an established business, have my own merchant account and still offer
paypal as a payment option. My customers enjoy having the paypal option as
many of them have balances that make buying a bit easier than putting
another charge onto their credit card. Could they transfer the balance to
their checking accounts and send me a check? Sure. Could they transfer the
money, put the charge on their credit card, and then write out a check to
their CC company? Sure. It's just easier for them to use the cash balance
in PP, and makes it seem that they're not spending "real" money.
